Blue Jean Nation to march forth on March 4th
January 19, 2017
The grassroots citizens movement Blue Jean Nation is holding a statewide gathering on Saturday, March 4 in Waupun to think out loud about how best to respond to mad times in America.
The event, “March Forth on March Fourth,” will be held in what was once a schoolhouse and now houses the Waupun Historical Society at 520 McKinley Street in Waupun. The doors open at 12:30 p.m. and activities are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. and conclude by 5 p.m.
The event is open to the public. But because seating is limited, those interested in participating are asked to register in advance and pay a $10 registration fee to help cover event expenses.
“We’ve just been through what was easily the most tumultuous, unpredictable and stressful election year of our lifetimes. There is more uncertainty and turmoil in our country and the world than has been seen in a long, long time. These are mad times. It’s tempting to curl up in a ball. We figure the better thing to do is get on with building a movement that pulls people together to challenge the political establishment to change its ways,” Blue Jean Nation founder and president Mike McCabe said.
Last year, the group sponsored a convening called the Blue Jean Nation Revival on February 20 in Neenah that attracted people from nearly 40 different Wisconsin communities in every part of the state. Nearly twice as many people are expected to attend this year’s gathering. There will be speakers, interactive sessions and discussions, as well as time set aside for networking and one-on-one conversations.
